Hey PLAPAnauts!
Today I take you on a musical journey through Armenia and show you how I recorded and mixed the “Naregatsi Orchestra” and their Song “New Uzundara”, which is a full live performance with 25 Musicians, using 16 Mics. The composition sounds so fresh but is actually from early 1900th written by Armenian star composer Komitas who composed and transposed over 4000 folk songs and inspired artists like Claude Debussy during his time in Paris. It’s an additional tutorial to our full 1 Hour documentary on how we recorded 12 songs in Armenia which is available on the PLAP Youtube channel —> https://youtu.be/91m7RUQXfng so you will find behind-the-scenes material and a Mic rundown including explanations how and why I’m using them.
As a bonus we had with us Kali Audio co-founder John and Charles with us who came over from LA to do this thing together, helping out setting up the cables and coordinating the communication between the artists and me/ Not only will you learn more about how sound works in reverbant rooms but also why it’s so crucial to choose the right mics in the right situation, which are not always the “best” ones, especially in less than great sounding places. This is one of many ways to mix this song and I invite you to download the Multi-tracks, get creative on your own and share your mixes for review in our community as well as Feedback Friday.
