      I thought it was an interesting idea and I've tried it, but it doesn't really work for me.
      What you get is a mix where everything sounds just as loud as each other, and that's rarely even close to what I'm after.
      Maybe it could work as a starting point for some genres, but to me I just found the process very irritating and unmusical, only to find myself ending up in a place where I didn't want to be.

        i use the hornet vu meter which saves me a lot of time setting up a mix https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-vu-meter-mk3/ it's real cheap and MORE than worth it imo

        here is a vid explaining it pretty well for auto gain staging https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDm3Jew32MA although the vid uses Studio One (which i do too) it works for other DAWs in the same way.
