Hey all, just wanted to share a thing I like to think about while mixing.. 2 things actually.

First off is Balance across the Frequency spectrum. This relates to where each Part likes to sit within the mix. or in which frequency range different things happen. (like sub frequencies living below 60Hz or 'air' frequencies living above 5kHz). These are things that - in my opinion - are best addressed with EQ, though there are so many tools available.

Second consideration is a tracks 'energy' or 'density'... This is different from loudness. I can demonstrate it with the image linked here.
      ---------- Sonic-Density ------------

I captured a few screen-shots while Mixing today. has a good visualization of what's happening in the mix.
strive for balance, trust your ears...
hope this provides some food for thought...
      cheers
