Mixing Like Music With Backing Track

Hey all, I'm mixing a live recording. It's a full band with a synth and piano backing track. Any tricks to adding a bit more life to the backing track? It's very "up the middle" and midrangie. I would usually just leave the track out but it's already a very sparse song so the build up is  dead without it. I have actually cut the track out of the first half of the song, up to the build up. Any help would be apricated! Here is a link to my rough mix.
