Hey all, we really had a lot of great dialogue and notes comparing on the last competition, so I thought perhaps we should collaborate on the new Lewitt audio contest, Marina & the Kats.  I'll go to bat first.  I'll also include a link to the contest page to get the multi-tracks.  Neo-swing band...

        And my take:  https://soundcloud.com/mark-lowrie/dirty-marina-the-kats-lewitt-mix

An interesting song - it's got an old, traditional folk-jazz sort'o feel thing but is presented with some contemporary aspects.  I didn't want to do a lot of modern processing, so kept it fairly straightforward.  The main focus for me was the vocals (a fair bit of volume riding and work to give it a warm, ribbon-mic, styling) and the bass (I didn't like the plinky thing they did at all!). 🙂

Hey Mark, great stereo field.  Feels very immersive.  I love it.

I'm having trouble thinking of something to offer as constructive feedback, but I've really got nothing!

MAYBE vocal could be tucked back just a little more in the verses?  In the second verse in particular, they feel just a little too far ahead.  And the "trombone solo" maybe up a little?  And maybe the lead guitar fills - automate a little louder during the breaks between vocal lines?

I think you've got a great shot at winning with this mix!
