My go-to LDC in my studio just died on me and I'm looking at either getting a Lewitt 240 or 440 to replace it.
Some backstory; I have been wanting to get my hands on a SM7B for warm, punchy vocals, but it's not in the budget right now.

I know a LDC doesn't sound like a SM7B, but I'm just wondering if it might be possible to kill 2 birds with one stone here. I know the 440 has a 1" transducer and the 240 is a bit smaller. I'm wondering if the smaller diaphragm on the 240 might lend itself more to the punchiness I'd like to achieve with an SM7B?

      Is this question convoluted enough?
      Thanks

I would have to say if you can, then borrow one of each to try yourself but if that's not an option then have a listen to some samples recorded on both and see what sounds "better" to your ears.

Here's a thread that compares the 240 to the 440:

Don't know much about the 440 but I do have a 240 and really love it. It's really versatile and the price is great (especially with the PLAPA discount).

Here's a song I recorded for my cousin recently with the 240 on the vocal:

Thanks man. Yes, the PLAP discount is fantastic. I'll have to mull on this a bit more.
