Drum sound from Livin' on a Prayer?

Hi folks,

The recent PLAP episode on Livin' on a Prayer featured a bit with the isolated drum track - which made me go off unmix the song to try to listen to the drums in more detail.

I can hear what sounds (to my ears) like a clearly gated snare, but can anyone shed light on how a production like this would have approached the overall drum kit please?

Would the approach tend to be applying a gated reverb to the snare but then just using room ambience of the rest of the kit? Or a mix of reverbs for the snare, overheads, toms, kick etc, and then trying to make sure they're matched up (which i'm guessing could get messy and muddy very quickly?
