I have a very modest setup in my apartment, and I am mixing on ATH-M70x headphones. I'm not quite used to the flat response yet, despite using reference tracks before I start mixing and I'm running into balancing issues because of this (particularly in the low end). I know being a PLAP member get me a sick discount on Reference 4, but I feel like getting it before I really know my headphones might be a mistake. It seems like an amazing tool, but I'm worried it would be a crutch in my mixing process. Can anyone offer any advice on this subject? Will it inhibit my mixing ability if I eventually end up working in a studio that does not use it?
