ParticipantHi everyone,
I've been gradually updating my drum tracking booth with acoustic treatment and was looking into possibly making bass traps. My rooms made from ceiling tile so its not strong enough to hang panels but I was considering leaning them up in the corners, but my dad was telling me since the room has pretty much no air circulation making Rockwool panels would be a bad idea. Does anyone have any opinions on this?
Other than making panels I've been looking into Auralex corner triangles.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,ChrisW

ParticipantHave you measured the room yet? A bit tricky in a tracking room though. There are a few room mode calculators out there that will help tell you roughly where your buildup will be.

http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-roommodes.htmI did a bunch of research before settling on pre-made free-standing foam panels from a company here in Australia.* From my readings, using wool superchunks (in forums known as fluffy) will provide better trapping than 703 air-gapped pannels, _but_ if you have any risk of condensation (eg an external facing wall) then the fluffy risks trapping all that inside and going mouldy. That said, so long as your panel face is around 3ft, then 4" of 703 will do a good job. The right corner foam will be better, but alos more expensive. MegaLERD gets a good wrap.
Here's a couple of the resources I used:

http://arqen.com/bass-traps-101/placement-guide/
https://soundacoustics.com.au/acoustic-foam-vs-semi-rigid-fibreglass/ <- in this one the widening the panel trap would improve absorption of lower frequencies* it's hard to get 703 here and I'm renting so nothing permanent is going up.

ParticipantThanks for the response James. I haven't done much room calculating yet cause I've been confused on how to use the online calculators. My room has five walls so I'm not sure how to accommodate that in the calculations. It's basically a square with a corner taken out.
It can get pretty humid in there in the summer, especially during a heavy practice day.

ParticipantI'll check out the resources too. Thanks again

ParticipantNo worries Chris.
If you use the square measurements you'll get a ballpark for what the modes are. The cut off corner will reduce their impact, but you'll still have them from the other square corners. You only really need these to rough in how low you need to treat for, so you should be good with approximate.
