Hey guys, just checking in - I've been deep, deep, deep into reworking my mix of 'Hey Lady'. It's become... an obsession 😉

I played around a little with the track - looove the bass line. I tend to start from there... the structure of the track's great - very 'on the money', nothing wasted. I like that a lot.

If I get the rest of my studio set-up... I might break out the Nord - see what goodies, they have in their Sound Library 🙂

...if I ever finish mixing 'Hey Lady'.

Craig! Love it! The choruses have a real energy and lift to them. Love what you've done with the breakdown and outro -really nice!

The verses, as before, great - but more in the vibe, in the groove of the song. It's really nice. Brings a real maturity to the lyrics, which I think helps them a lot.

My only feedback at this point, would be... if you want to, goes nuts with it!

For example, I played with different variations on the outro - just repeating the chorus or just singing the outro parts etc.

I think we've got a really solid take with that one. It might be cool at the mixing stage to have some vocal variations, scat, improv, whatever - bits you'd like add etc. Wherever your gut takes you.

            Anders, what do you think?

Really, really solid job Craig - well impressed. And you nailed everyone of the points I brought up and they were all pretty subtle so.... really, very very nice job!

Thanks man ! Much appreciated !

I did think about doing some ooohs and aaahs and baby's etc (you know what I mean !) but my falsetto needs a bit of warming up (about a week!)

I cranked the compression up a bit on the 5017 and that really helped to keep things under control when I went for it a bit and I think gave the whole vocal a bit more energy. Been using an SE R1 Ribbon mic which keeps things quite nice too !

If I get some more time I will definitely have a try at really going for it (the missus was in this time so I was a bit subdued).

Just for info - I copied and pasted the whole backing track at (I think) bar 69 and it totally works - (! was attempting a guitar solo - not quite ready for human consumption yet 😉

              Cheers

Sounds amazing Craig! You've really got a fantastic voice. Great job! Love to hear the guitar solo when it's done. I'll make a mix of what we have so far, but anyone can of course do their own mix.

                  Thanks Anders !

to me it's like nails on a blackboard - but you know what it's like listening to yourself !

That guitar solo ? - even worse ! -will probably have another go;-)

Like the new pic - Beards United !!

                  Cheers

First pass at the mix. Mixing wise, not done too much... just some Bus Work : Multi-band Envelope Filters, EQ, Bit compression. Put a Vocal Rider on the Vocals, but that's about it. Ran it out to Summing Mixer and SSL Stereo Bus back in, to Ozone 7 on the Master Bus.

Played around with the intro a little. Quite like it. Thought I'd share and see you what you think. It's quite 80s 😉

....haven't referenced the track, so the bass is probably honking! 🙂

                      Hi Toby !

I would like bring YOUR idea from "Hey Lady" to that song. What about adding some background like a phone call in between, or a part made as phone call. Also so some noises with lighter and cigarettes. Don't forget barking in the night ... 😉

Good job Toby! Sounds great. I would still like to bring in another element, maybe strings and possibly some more fills, to fill out the spaces where nothing else happens and to get a build up in the second half of the song.

                        Arthur, go for it!

Nice Job Toby - a real old school feel!

I will try and get something up later just for contrast
