Hi, I'm sure a few of you have heard about this piece of gear. You can find them in the Pro Audio/Vintage section of Ebay for around 40/50 bucks. They are titled as a mic mixer (4 channel) but are actually 4 mic pres as well. The only hitch is that as manufactured, there's only 1 output for the 4 collective mics. I kept hearing about these has being a bit of underrated vintage sounding pre, apparently used to record Woodstock, so I finally grabbed one for $40 CAD. I will let everyone know what it sounds like once it arrives but just wondered if anyone here has any experience with it and what their impressions are. Apparently there's also a few mods out there which can create an output for each of the 4 mics, effectively turning it into a 4 channel pre.

      Cheers

Received the unit a couple days ago. Seems to work fine, but I've not tested all the output paths yet, just the xlr out. All 4 mic pres work. Here are some observations:

        For 40-60 dollars why not
Pre's seem to break up pretty quickly but I've not experimented extensively yet with the pre/output level combinations
I think this unit would be great in any situations calling for a nice gritty sound, DI or miced guitars/bass, adding some bit to a snare drum, trashy vox etc.
Saturation plugins will not be needed after using this unit I don't think!

Anyway hopefully this of service to anyone considering picking one of these up.

        Cheers,

        Vic
