ParticipantI have a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 that has suddenly stopped connecting via firewire to my pc. This has happened a few years back and it was an expensive fix. My hope is that I can still use the pro 40 as a stand alone bank of 8 pres with a light pipe feed to a thunderbolt Apollo interface I plan to purchase in the near future.
My question for anyone who has worked with the pro 40: is using it as a stand-alone unit possible, since My pc won't open up the software for the pro 40 without hardware/firewire connectivity? I am unable to obviously reset outputs without software connection. Is there a hardware reset?
Thanks!!

ParticipantI believe you have to use the computer to set it up. Do you know if the problem you're having is with the computer or the device? If it's on the computer side, maybe you could hook up temporarily to a friend's computer and configure it?

ParticipantThe device itself no longer indicates firewire connectivity. I've tried 2 cables.
My pc says the firewire card is operable. Unfortunately I have no way of actually testing the card since I only own one firewire device. My saffire. Lol.
However the firewire connector on the card does look wonky, but i don't think it's the issue.

ParticipantHi Tony,
Did you have any luck with your problem?

ParticipantI double checked the saffire with a converter cable from my saffire to the firewire card's 9 pin connector, and still nothing. I"m 99.9% positive it is the firewire module in the saffire, its happened before. I thought I could use the Apollo MKII with my current PC, but found out my MOBO won't support Thunderbolt. So, I"m gonna move on to a MAC based thunderbolt setup, which I've always intended, utilizing the Apollo Twin and eventually adding a larger Apollo unit with more pres. I plan on getting the saffire backup and running, as well. I like them alot and don't intend to be with out them forever.
So now I am on the hunt for the right MAC, mainly in the price category. I'll keep my PC setup as well. Its strong but I'm ready for the advantages of MAC, thunderbolt and pro tools. Stability, and mainly when it comes to using the capabilities of the Slate raven mti2 control surface.
