ParticipantI submitted mine but I'm still not satisfied with my kick drum. Gonna rework it...

ParticipantGreat work Mange! Love the clarity in your mix!
"Gonna rework it" could be the PLAPA credo Chris ๐ Looking forward to hear it!

ParticipantHaha true story. So after messing with it I've decided to leave it be. For some reason I think the low thump works better in this song than a pronounced, punchier kick. Maybe because the drums are a little loose sounding. Idk. I'm gonna let it stand as is.
Here's my submission Distance - Regret the Hour

KeymasterAmacca, solid mix. Vocals are nice and warm. Bottom end drives the song along. Drums have a solid, thumping, pumping sound. Overheads are present without spilling all the mix. Like the sudden stop on the guitar - very cool.
I'd have liked a little more definition / separation in the lows to low mids, feels like some of the guitar tones are being washed away... buuuut, that's personal taste. The overall balance and feel of the mix works extremely well. Top job!

KeymasterMange, nice mix - clean, open, ....but with good warmth on the vocals, guitars etc. Like the tone on the solo - rich and biting. Good body on the overheads - but still keeping them tight. Drums are placed nicely in the reverb and have body and thump. Well balanced. Very professional job!

KeymasterGonna rework my mix today ๐ ...took a break to rework my Sliding Doors mix. I don't think mixes are ever finished, just gets to the point where you can't 'hear them' anymore.

ParticipantGreat thanks to Anders and Toby for the encouraging words.

ParticipantKind of a technical question, but I remember Andrew Schepps talking about mastering to a lower peak volume so it holds up better to MP3 conversion. I think he said -.07 or something was the magic number. Anyone remember seeing this? Wondering if I should re-bounce less hot for Indaba since it converts to MP3 (which I don't understand at all)

KeymasterI have read something similar before... I have the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-In. I always set my final limiter a little lower, otherwise the Fraunhofer peaks.
I've been playing around mixing to the LUFS standards - does anyone have any experience of that?

ParticipantI use -1dB. Yup, itยดs due to the mp3 conversion. The more limiting you use the more mp3 headroom you might need to not have any true peak overs.
these are pretty good

ParticipantI still shoot for -10 RMS which is moderately hot I guess. The new multi meter in logic shows LUFS as well but I forget what the standard is supposed to be lol.

Participant@Mange Awesome. Thanks for posting this.
I found the Schepps video if anyone's curious. It's long but interesting.
