      Hi.

When using parallel compression, for example on a guitar or vocal track, typically how much, if any compression would be applied to the original (non parallel compressed) track? I guess it must vary from case to case but would it be common to apply no compression at all to the raw track and simply mix in some of the parallel compressed track or in most cases would some compression be required for the original track as well?

I hope that’s slightly clearer than mud. Many thanks for your help.

        Hello

Someone with more experience will answer this better I'm sure.

My own thoughts were acoustic you may want to add gentle compression just to smooth out any peaks for a more constant level.  I use the SSL channel strip for this (when I can get back to doing some mixing). As for distorted Guitars you may not need any at all.

          Hi Mark.

That makes sense. Thank you very much.

Try a serial compression on the main vocal track with about 3dB each and see how it goes.

I tend go a little heavy on my P-Track . But keep the level lower than the Main. Sometime much lower. It's one of those things that changes with each Track. And something to adjust in the Mix.

What compressor do you guys usually use on the P track, 1176? FC670? or SSLComp? Or .....

                Let's say, DRUM / Vocal / BASS
