OH MY GOD [L Goffin-D Way] peteysaw mix

Holy crap - hope this got in under the wire, Eric!

I did not want to miss a chance to mix this incredible & complex piece. Louise Goffin is the artist, Van Dyke Parks did the [wow] orchestral arrangement [a "since we have him coming in for one song, why not have him do an arrangement for this one as well?" deal] and Dave Way recorded, mixed & pulled it all together [as well as playing some bass & "mouth hi hat"].

I started out by cleaning up the tracks like a maniac for the sake of definition; strings were recorded together, then woodwinds so some natural leakage survived but much did not. Working deep into the tracks forced me to really get under the hood of VDP's arrangement. I did the same thing for the wonderful mallet-played, tom-filled Charlie Drayton drums, which really add to the A DAY IN THE LIFE vibe.

My mix feels Beatle-y like Dave's does, but I waited longer to bring in the orchestra and when I did, it's just orchestra and lead vocal. This let me clear out a few elements they added [mellotron flutes & strings] & make it rock a little more. Dave spoke at length about the integrity of the band version inside/underneath it all and it was fun to let it very much start out as that.

Pete: great job. You are too right. Very Beatle type vibe. And very complex, just as you said. Lots of things being added throughout. Seems like you handled it all quite nicely. Nothing stood out that caught my ear that needs to be addressed. Nicely done.
