the song Pete Mroz - Open Your Eyes

      https://academy.producelikeapro.com/season-26-multitrack-sessions-2/

the challenge tobisonics manufacturer challenge mix this song useing only 1 plugin manufacture ...past stand out was harrison and i remember tobi kicking ass with the fab filter

after you have made your choice and mixed the song please post in this thread with take a way's and please discuss.

if you dont have any plugins just use the daw stock plugins they are still in the spirit of the rules.

i used the slate last time and that was very easy to get a result i was happy with

What about Waves. Are we saying brands within Waves? Waves encompasses so much!

Anyone know the tempo, key etc? Tossing up on a sub brand in the Waves family like Eddie Kramer, or possibly McDSP.....

i used izotope for this this is... something i bought after getting pressure to master a client project i have always regretted (note i cant master for shit)

there were issues with side chaining not working properly, the effects in nector have less flavor than vanilla and should be renamed MILK.

i again tried to use the master assist and the track assist but i cant get them to sound good.

there is a sculpt thing that i think is like soothe? but just doesnt seem to sound right to me.

if you listen to warrens track his is super full and warm rich. and i could not match his results.

i think there are probably great tools here but they are for someone who gets modern mixing more than i seem too.

having said that im glad to have done this. im a little afraid of using new things especially mid side processioning and im aware that i need to get my feet wet and start using all the tools it the tool box when they are needed.

let me know if you guys have feedback or suggestions of any kind.

*ok based on pauls feed back i carved more on bass guitar, lowered drums overall and pushed 500hz on the acoustic

Hey Kip, this is great man. I’m not sure about the snare sound in the verses.. feels a bit like a dustbin lid to me. Bass is massive!
Kick and snare in the chorus’s are great. Toms feel a little separate to the rest of the kit, particularly on the individual hits. Love the vocal sound. Could do with a little surgery on the s’es.
I’d like to hear more of the acoustic although if you work on on the bass that will start coming up on it’s on I reckon.
Electric is cooooool… really like the verb treatment.
Yeah I think it’s mainly the bass is too big and covering up too much for me.

Got me pumped for starting this one!

Kip.. love it! Having started working on the track I now really like the direction you took on the snare. It’s a horrible sound but it works! Amazing 🙂
For me, a touch more kick in the verses and a touch more low lows overall.. I’m talking no more than a dB or so at 50/60hz.
I find the toms a little loud in the break and the last hit. Great tone there though.
The piano dips in and out a fair bit. Maybe high pass a bit more and bring that up or automate.
The pad is a tricky one. I’ve yet to work out what to do with it. I tend to use them as pure ear candy… so mess it up as much as possible and use them for points of interest. Not sure that’ll work here though. Just a thought.
