Greetings from Pasadena!
I’ve been doing a lot of Dialogue Editing in the audio post world lately, so I took some inspiration from that and did most of my vocal work within iZotope RX standalone. By eliminating poppy plosives and windy fricatives at the source, I had to do a lot less EQing than normal and just rely on the great recording quality of the material.
This is also my first time using Acustica Celestial (an SSL Fusion emulation). I put it across the mixbus and really like what it does to the sound.
I also tried my hand at mastering the track, which I did through Eventide’s Newfangled Elevate plugin. It’s great for adding multiband transients and basically just doing what you have to in mastering.
As far as creative decisions were concerned, I didn’t worry about anything being “too 90s,” I just tried to follow the track where it seemed to want to go. On reflection, it’s very 90s, but I think (at least in my mix) it wanted to be. Especially in the verses.
Please let me know what you think - I’d appreciate any comments you have.
