Hi there, any kind of pr-mix that I do will involve balancing the tracks and checking to see how well they have been recorded. I am involved with an electronic band but we also use some miked sources too and when production is finished it is all sent to me for mixing and mastering. I have educated them in such that they now send me files that peak at -12db. This way I know that I don't have to worry about clipping or anything like that when mixing time come about. If someone approaches me to mix for them I will use the same process. I have a saying I use a lot (BY FAILING TO PREPARE YOU ARE PREPARING TO FAIL!!) As for warming up sound sources I will usually wait until mixing time to do this but I agree that if tracks sound brittle they may need some warming up!

    Cheers,
