Pro Tools: I always seem to struggle with where to do automation. I have tried several workflow ideas. Bus tracks to aux subs then use the VCA to control the Aux sub. But automate the aux sub. I got that idea from Pro Mix Ulrich Wild videos. This seems to work overall. But if I need just the kick to be louder in the chorus, I now break the drums (or what ever group) down to "Kick sub", "snare sub", etc. then control the subs with a Drum VCA. I have also just automated the individual track if it adds what I need.
Thoughts? or am I over thinking or is it just "horses for courses?"
